Coming in October at Boulder Swing Dance

Join us this October for some spook-tacular festivities. We're hosting our regular classes in Longmont and Boulder, including our Flatiron Stomp with Jeremy Mohney and his band the first Monday. The last Monday of the month, we're having specialty drop-in classes like Krister's Monster Mash routine, as well as a Halloween-themed dance complete with decorations and costume contest. Also join us for our monthly social event to Anderson Farms, and come see our students perform at Rocky Mountain Balboa Blowout! Check it out:

Mondays at Kake's

We start a new Level 1 Swing series this month on October 2nd from 8-9 PM.  If you are new to swing dancing, this is where you should start.

If you've completed a month of Level 1, then you're ready to start our Level 1.5 from 7-8 PM.  This month we'll be focusing on swing out technique and adding in turns.

Level 2 will be from 8-9 PM and is for those who've taken two months of 1.5. This month we're on our Savoy series where students will learn classic eight-count patterns that were invented by dancers in the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, NY during the 1930s and 1940s.

For students who've been through all four of our Level 2 material, our Level 2.5 courses are just for you! This month from 7-8 PM for the first three months we're finishing up our Balboa Routine, but for the final weeks we'll have drop-in friendly Intermediate Balboa material for you!

After class, from 9 PM-10:30 PM we'll have our regular weekly dance. Staying for the social dance is a great way to try out moves you learn from lessons, as well as get to know your classmates, and it's free if you take a class.

ON OCTOBER 2nd Jeremy Mohney and his band are playing for us, so stick around for some great live music!

ON OCTOBER 30th We're hosting our annual BOO-lder swing social dance with games and Costume Contest! We also have specialty classes this night, all drop-in friendly including Level 2.5 Balboa, The Shim Sham, and the Monster Mash!

Wednesdays at SKEYE Brewing

Join us for classes on Wednesdays at SKEYE Brewing! We're on Promenades in Level 1.5, starting at 6:30 and Level 1 for beginners starts at 7:30.

SKEYE Brewing is a more intimate class setting, and has the bonus of a 30-minute practice session after class to ask our instructors questions, and share a drink with your classmates.

ON October 25th we're having our monthly social dance after classes. Join us at 8:30 for a beer, music and swing dancing!

Groovin' Fundamentals: Solo Workshop

Using inspiration from other dance styles is a great way to influence your lindy hop! That’s why we’re bringing in Kate Hazen, amazing Denver dancer of many styles, to teach you some of her moves! Join us Sunday, October 8th at 12:30-3:30 and take your groove to the next level.

Warm up to some Afro-Cuban beats and get into moving your body.

Now that you’ve loosened up, let’s get comfortable with new movements and combos to wake up your freestyle!

How does this work with my body? How do these beats fit into my dancing? How can I use that to make my dancing better? We’ll put the groove into context!

$35 ($30 with a student ID) or three punches on your Boulder Swing Dance punch card. Register here or at the door.

Social Events

Every month at Boulder Swing we try to take the time to focus on our community of dancers. This opportunity affords us the ability to get to know the people we dance with every week, and the folks whom maybe we don't dance with because they practice the same dance roll.

ON OCTOBER 15th we're falling for fall and heading to a corn maze of a-maize-ing proportions. Join us at Anderson Farms for a tractor ride to their HUGE pumpkin patch, feed some cute farm animals, team up and get through the corn maze as fast as you can, and perhaps stick around for the spooky nighttime fun of Terror in the Corn! We'll be setting up a group purchase for a discount if you want to do both activities.

ON OCTOBER 20th-22nd Northglenn hosts Rocky Mountain Balboa Blowout which is a Balboa-focused weekend workshop with lessons with awesome instructors (such as our own Heather Ballew), social dances, competitions and performances. Come check out some of Boulder Swing's dancers perform the routine they've been working on and represent our scene!
