Coming up in September at Boulder Swing Dance

Fall is officially upon us with the changing weather, with students back in school, and new and exciting things at Boulder Swing Dance. We start a new series of classes as listed below including a new routine class known as the Flatiron Stompers, and don't forget to join us the first Monday of the month for live music with Jeremy Mohney and his band after classes. Also, join us for our beginner lesson and dance the last Wednesday of the month at SKEYE Brewing and stay tuned for news of our monthly social event!

*YES, we will have classes on Labor Day!

Monday Nights at Kake's Studios

We start a new Level 1 Swing series this month on September 5th from 8-9 PM.  If you are new to swing dancing, this is where you should start.

If you've completed a month of Level 1, then you're ready to start our Level 1.5 from 7-8 PM.  This month we'll be focusing on moves from closed position, and will end the month teaching a popular line dance: The Shim Sham.

Level 2 will be from 8-9 PM and is for those who've taken both series of 1.5. September is our six-counts curriculum, which breaks away from the basic eight-count structure down to six-count combination and now to effectively mix them with your eight-count Lindy Hop

Also, on Monday, we're starting another series of the Flatiron Stompers which is our routine group. This is a great opportunity to improve your dancing while getting to show of the moves you’ve learned! The routine group is open to all of our students starting Level 2 or higher.

In September we will have a special routine prep class to help people get ready for the team. These classes will focus on some of the combos that will be covered in choreography, and no partner is required. These classes will be from 7-8 PM on Mondays.

Actual team rehearsals will start in October and run for two months. You must find a partner for at this point. Practices will take place on Mondays at 7-8 PM at Kakes studios, but there may be more optional practices closer to the performance.

Our hope is to perform at this year’s 1940s White Christmas Ball (the winter companion to the 1940’s summer Ball) in Broomfield on Saturday, December 3rd. Here's a video of what we did this summer.  We're pretty proud of all the hard work that went into it!

After class, from 9 PM-10:30 PM we'll have our regular weekly dance. Staying for the social dance is a great way to try out moves you learn from lessons, as well as get to know your classmates, and it's free if you take a class.  On Labor Day, September 5th, Jeremy Mohney and his band are playing for us, so stick around for some great live music!

Know anyone who's new to dance but isn't ready for the classroom vibe? Invite them to SKEYE Brewing, a tap house and brewery in Longmont who has invited us to teach swing dance lessons and host a monthly dance. We teach a beginner-friendly swing dance lesson from 7-8 PM followed by a social dance, open to anyone. SKEYE is a great place to learn to dance, hang out, have a beer and get to know the folks you dance with. In September we'll be teaching there on Wednesday the 28th.

Social Event

Getting to know people at dance can be difficult, especially when you're dancing and busy trying to come up with the moves, or follow the moves and not step on anyones toes. :) That's why we host monthly social events to take time and hang out with one another away from Kake's Studios. We've danced under the bandshell at the Farmer's market, we've shared afternoon burritos at Illegal Pete's and ice cream on Pearl Street, and in August we hit Rayback collective for some drinks and games. Please stay tuned for more information on our September social destination!
