Swing dancing is a “catch all” term for the dances that originated in the swing era and were danced to swing music. At Boulder Swing Dance we specialize in teaching authentic partner swing dances in a friendly and welcoming environment. Our focus is on Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Charleston—three of the original swing dances that are characterized by their high energy and joyful nature. Today there is a vast community of swing dancers that stretches around the globe. It is a great way to stay fit and meet new people. Check out our Swing 101 page for more information. Need some music to get your feet tapping? Our Music page has got you covered.
Learn to swing dance by getting started with our month-long Level 1 Intro to Swing series. No Partner needed. You can join either our Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday night Level 1 series at the start of any month (the same material is covered both nights). To help you prepare for what to expect in your first class, we have put together a handy guide.
All of our classes are progressive which means they build on one another. Click here to find out more about our curriculum.
We also offer private lessons. To find out more about private lessons email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
You can join any of our class series the first Monday Tuesday, or Wednesday of the month. If you are more advanced or already have swing experience, then check our schedule and class descriptions to figure out what level is appropriate for you.
Our classes take place in three locations. Mondays are held at Kakes Studios on Pearl Street in downtown Boulder, our Tuesday classes are held at East Simpson Coffee Co. in Lafayette, and our Wednesday classes are held at SKEYE Brewing in Longmont. We also have regular social events as well as an open practice times for people to work on their dancing.
Want to learn to dance? Attending the 1940’s WWII Era Ball and want to cut a rug? Boulder Swing Dance is offering a 2.5 hour boot camp on June 9th, 2018 that will have you swing cadets jitterbugging like cool cats lickety-split! No partner needed. Our pre-ball bootcamps almost always sell out, and space is limited. Click here to register and reserve your spot.
If you are attending the Ball, get a $10 discount! You must show your 1940s WWII Era Ball ticket or proof of purchase at the registration desk before the workshop to verify eligibility.
Over the 2.5 hours in the bootcamp you will learn a variety of fun dance steps that can be led on the social dance floor. We offer a supportive, friendly, environment for all ages an abilities. Even if you have never danced before, this is the perfect opportunity to learn!
No partner is required. As with all of our workshops, bootcamps, and classes, everyone rotates. We have found that this is the fastest way to improve. If you come with someone, there will be opportunities during the breaks between classes to dance and practice with them.
Our classes run in 4-week series that begin the first Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the new month. We run classes and a dance on Monday nights at Kakes Studios in Boulder, Tuesday night classes in Lafayette, and Wednesday night classes in Longmont. You can join a class series in either the first or second week of the month, but after that you must wait until the following month's series.
Our next series of classes start the week of June 4th. On Sundays we offer a Swing Sweat dance/fitness class in Boulder from 11AM-Noon that is drop-in friendly.
