Spook-tacular things are happening at Boulder Swing Dance this October! We start a new series of classes as listed below including a routine class known as the Flatiron Stompers, and don't forget the first Monday of the month includes live music with Jeremy Mohney and the last Monday we're hosting a BOOlder Swing Halloween Dance. Also, join us for our beginner lesson at SKEYE Brewing, and dance the last Wednesday of the month in Longmont. And this month, our social event will be at Cottonwood Farm on Sunday, the 16th. So much to be excited about!
Monday Nights at Kake's Studios
We start a new Level 1 Swing series this month on September 5th from 8-9 PM. If you are new to swing dancing, this is where you should start.
If you've completed a month of Level 1, then you're ready to start our Level 1.5 from 7-8 PM. This month we'll be focusing on swing out technique as well as turns.
Level 2 will be from 8-9 PM and is for those who've taken both series of 1.5. October we're on our Charleston curriculum. Partner Charleston is an important part of modern swing dancing. This month introduces side-by-side Charleston and tandem Charleston.
Also, on Monday, we're officially starting the Flatiron Stompers routine group. This is a great opportunity to improve your dancing while getting to show of the moves you’ve learned! The routine group is open to all of our students starting Level 2 or higher but you must sign up with a partner by October 3rd. The routine will run for two months, ending with a performance at the 1940s White Christmas Ball in Broomfield on Saturday, December 3rd. Practices will take place from 7-8 PM, but there may be more optional practices closer to the performance.
Live Music With Jeremy Mohney
After class, from 9 PM-10:30 PM we'll have our regular weekly dance. Staying for the social dance is a great way to try out moves you learn from lessons, as well as get to know your classmates, and it's free if you take a class. On October 3rd, Jeremy Mohney and his band are playing for us, so stick around for some great live music!
BOOlder Swing Dance presents: Vampire Stomp
We're so lucky to have Halloween fall on a Monday this year, so prepare your best costume and take part in our costume contest, dance under our decorations and enjoy a performance from The Diamond Dolls on All Hallow's Eve!
Know anyone who's new to dance but isn't ready for the classroom vibe? Invite them to SKEYE Brewing, a tap house and brewery in Longmont who has invited us to teach swing dance lessons and host a monthly dance. Stay tuned for information on our new beginner series at SKEYE, and join us Wednesday, October 27th for our FREE DJed social dance following the beginner lesson.
It can be hard to get to know the people you dance with. That's why we host monthly outtings to grow our dance community. We've gone hiking, dancing, and eating of course, but Fall is fleeting and we can't miss this opportunity to enjoy the season.
So this month we're going to Cottonwood Farm for a corn maze, farm animals and pumpkin-picking! This farm is just ten minutes from central Boulder, so head East on Arapahoe Road and turn right onto 75th St and you're there. The farm has a $3 Hay Ride around the grounds and everything else is free (minus what you buy to take home)! We'll meet there around 10:45 and travel through the corn maze before checking out the farm and maybe finding the perfect pumpkin to take home. We look forward to seeing everyone away from the dance floor.
