November means an influx of dance, as the cold weather keeps us to indoor activities. And this month Boulder Swing has so much planned for you!
Monday Night at Kake's Studio's
We start a new Level 1 Swing series this month on September 5th from 8-9 PM. If you are new to swing dancing, this is where you should start.
If you've completed a month of Level 1, then you're ready to start our Level 1.5 from 7-8 PM. This month we'll be focusing on promenades and will end the month with the Shim Sham.
Level 2 will be from 8-9 PM and is for those who've taken both series of 1.5. November we're on our Savoy curriculum. This series covers classic eight-count patterns that were invented by dancers in the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, NY during the 1930s and 1940s.
Also, on Monday, we're continuing our Flatiron Stompers performance troupe. They'll be performing on December 3rd at the White Christmas Ball, as well as our annual Festivus party.
LIVE MUSIC WITH JEREMY MOHNEY
After class, from 9 PM-10:30 PM we'll have our regular weekly dance. Staying for the social dance is a great way to try out moves you learn from lessons, as well as get to know your classmates, and it's free if you take a class. On November 7th, Jeremy Mohney and his band are playing for us, so stick around for some great live music!
Wednesday Night at SKEYE Brewing
We're excited to run our first beginner series in Longmont this November on Wednesdays* from 7-8 PM. The material covered in the Wednesday Longmont classes will be identical to the material covered in the Monday classes in Boulder. This means that if you need to miss a Wednesday class you can make it up on Monday (and vice-versa). Want more practice? Now you can take both series at the same time to accelerate your learning.
Following the class will be a short 20 minute practice (free) where you can try out your new moves, hang out with your classmates, and ask the instructors any questions you might have.
*There will be no class on Wednesday, November 23rd in lieu of Thanksgiving, but will finish on the 30th.
On the final Wednesday of the month, we'll be hosting our monthly DJed social dance following class from 9-CLOSE at SKEYE. This is a free social dance and everyone is welcome, regardless of if you took the series. This month the dance is happening on Wednesday, the 30th.
Every month we host social events for dancers to have a chance to get to know each other. Last month we fell for Fall at the Pumpkin Patch, and this month we're finding a reason to be thankful!
Boulder is a huge community of people from all over the US, (even the world!) and many people use their vacation time to go home around Christmas, leaving them away from their families for Thanksgiving. But this year we're so excited to announce that you can spend your Thanksgiving with fellow dancers! John and Amanda Armstrong have offered to host a Thanksgiving dinner the day of for everyone who wants a welcome place to go. More information will follow.
