Festivus for the Rest of Us
This week we had our year-end holiday dance at Boulder Swing. In addition to great music and fun dancing there was an ugly sweater contest, feats of strength, and the airing of grievances (Shim Sham edition). Our students also performed a routine they have been hard at work on for the past six weeks. This choreography includes many of the moves we taught throughout the year in classes, and served as a kind of year-end recap—a review revue. We couldn’t be more proud of how well our students did. In total we had 13 couples perform. So many that it was difficult to fit everyone in the camera frame. Because of that we have posted three versions of the video below from different angles.
The night was also a celebration of Stephen Newcomb. For over half-a-decade Stephen has taught for and helped run Boulder Swing. Starting next year he is taking a scaled back role and will no longer be regularly teaching. It was awesome to see so many people come out to thank and dance with Stephen. He leaves some big shoes to fill on Monday nights.
Finally, this was the very last Tuesday dance at the Avalon. Starting next year we are moving our dance to Monday nights downtown Boulder (your punch cards will still work). It has been rewarding to watch the dance and community grow over the past 14 months. This wouldn’t have been possible without all of the awesome help and support we have got from our teachers, door coordinators, DJ’s and Dance Ambassadors. You guys all rock.
From everyone at Boulder Swing we wish you and yours Happy Holidays! We’ll see you the first Monday of 2015, January 5th, at Kake’s Studios for our Flatiron Stomp.
