Here’s what we did in our classes last night:
Beginner Class
We jumped right in learning Charleston individually then doing it side-by-side with our partner. We reviewed the Basic and Circle and then linked them together with the Charleston. Some of the techniques we talked about were the follower keeping her right foot in front and the leader “staying cool” during the Circle. We also talked about leaders visualizing the beginning of the next move for smoother transitions.
We finished off with the Swingout From Closed (Basic from closed position). Linking all of these together, we’ve got a full set of moves to use on the dance floor now.
Next week, we’ll finish up the series with more review and some Charleston variations. Don’t forget that if this is your second month, you might want to come early and take the Advanced Fundamentals Connection class at 7pm.
Advanced Fundamentals
Dano and Heather covered cross over Charleston and getting in and out of face to face Charleston from side-by-side.
Next week: Shana and John finish off the month with our connection class. Don’t miss it!
Intermediate
John and Shana continued this month’s theme of “adding energy” by working on changing the tempo of turns. Both leaders and followers can speed up or slowdown turns by connecting with their partner correctly. We worked quite a bit on honing the connection and applied it to fast/slow tuck turns, and crank turns. We also learned the “quick stop” styling for the followers.
Next week: Heather and Dano teach the Intermediate class with their delightful bag of tricks.
Other Information
Students of all abilities are encouraged to attend the beginner class–it’s a perfect opportunity to hone those skills and to gain confidence in a social-dance setting.
